How do I determine the value of my ruby gem?

hardy to see from words, better to see pictures...I don't know if there is a institution for identify and judge its general value...or maybe you can find some truthful or bigger GEM dealer for getting some opinions there. Anyway, value of ruby is not important, It is very important that because it is your family gift(contain many memory), keep well :-)
